Glastonbury Festival is the largest greenfield, music and performing arts festival in the world, where an audience of up to 210,000 make their journeys to the Vale of Avalon near the village of Pilton in Somerset.
Steve Russell-Yarde, Managing Director of CTM, is responsible for all traffic management operations for both vehicular and pedestrian transport at the festival, which includes;
– Coach Station Arrivals and Departures
– Offsite Drop and Collect
– Shuttle Bus Services
– Rail Services
– Offsite Motorcycle Monitor
– Overseeing Village Liaison
– Off site section of Event Control
– Emergency Services Liaison
– Council and Highways co-ordination
Below this structure, Steve is also responsible for all other sub-contractors that operate ‘outside the fence line’, which include;
– Temporary Traffic Lights
– Temporary Road Signage
– Heavy Vehicle Recovery
– Roadside and Car Park Assistance and Recovery
– Stewarding and Volunteers
– Variable Message Signs
With around 45,000 vehicles accessing the rural site over a 48hr period the traffic management operation for the festival is certainly a significant undertaking.
CTM are contracted to operate and manage all the festival car parks 24hrs a day for the duration of the festival. This requires a significant logistical operation involving a team of approximately 750 stewards and marshals; including their internal management structures, administration and control room staff. As well as being responsible for the parking arrangements around the site, the CTM team provide the festival with the following services;
– Coach Station
– Road Closures and One-Way Routes
– Offsite Camping Areas
– Hospitality and VIP Parking
– CSAS Operatives
– Bus Travel Sales
– Parking Sales
Contracting CTM to provide traffic management and stewarding services for the Lady Godiva Half Marathon has improved the event enormously, enhancing its safety, reputation and the slickness of the operation.
On behalf of everyone, including all our visitors, a huge thank you to you and everyone from CTM who all played their part in enabling us to run this year's event.
