Tall Ships (Greenock)
The Tallships sailing race came to Greenock in Scotland in 2011 and CTM was appointed as primary traffic management contractor for the event.
We were responsible for the design, build and operation of two out-of-town park and ride sites, three town centre drop off/pick up stations and several car parks within the town centre. We were also responsible for the collection, audit and reconciliation of parking fees at the various sites.
Over 6 months of planning prior to the event saw our management team liaising with the local council, highways, police, contractors, and bus providers to ensure that, on the day, everything fell into place and ran smoothly. Our pre-event team installed over 6 km of pedestrian barrier, 4 km of fencing, and 3 km of temporary roadway, as well as portable lighting, toilets, etc. at all of the sites.
Inclement weather during the event provided additional challenges, with much of the original parking areas rendered unusable by heavy rain. Our pro-active dynamic approach to managing these sort of situations ensured that visitors to the event were not affected by the last minute changes which had to be implemented.
On the night before the last day of the event, our team worked through the night to move barriers to a different drop off point to enable visitors to view the Tallships leaving Greenock.
Post-event, all sites were cleared and restored to their original condition before we left.
